Toddler Blur & Manual Mode

In last week’s Kid Style post, I mentioned how much trouble I’m having with taking photos in Manual mode. Either it’s just too sunny outside and I have trouble with shadows or partial shading, or there’s just not enough light, then I’m stuck with blur. And trying to get toddlers to pose for pictures, isn’t exactly an easy task.

Tea Collection Fall 2012

This past Saturday, I could have captured some awesome pictures of the girls. You know the ones were they are standing in the perfect spot with the perfect pose and great facial expressions? Yeah, those! And then I realized I completely forgot to adjust my camera settings and was clicking away without ever once reviewing the pics in the viewfinder, only to find that my settings were all screwed up and the ‘kodak moments’ were either too underexposed or too blurry to salvage. Oh, I’m still kicking myself in the arse for that one! But I did manage to get a few decent ones to use in this post.

But regardless of the quality of the pics, aren’t their outfits adorable? I <3 the Tea Collection.

Anyone have any tips for photographing toddlers?
I sure could use some!

I’m not by any means an exceptional photographer or anything but I find the lighting at the end of the day to be the most forgiving on my camera. I tend to use the auto buttons far too much but I do try the manual ones here and there and have had hot and cold results. My best advice would be to take a whole bunch of shots at different angles and distances so you have lots to choose from. Your little cuties seem to be loved by the camera and great posers – I couldn’t get my daughter to pose like that even if I bribed her with chocolate, lol. They both look so sweet in those pretty outfits :)

You’re not the only one, this happens to me often but now before I take the pictures I make sure it’s on the right setting and take a “sample” picture to see if it’s the way I want it to be.

I suck at taking picture, so I wouldn’t be any help. Your photos came out great!
